Hardwood floors are natures gift to us! What do you think about when you look at your wood floors?  Is it the color of the wood? So many times this is what I hear in conversations. I also hear about the grain pattern in the wood. Another thing most discussed is the styling of the wood, whether its how wide the boards are or perhaps that the pattern is a square parquet style. Some conversations are around the nonindigenous to American species of woods like Teak, Brazilian Cherry, or Merbau Etc. All woods have a fasinating story story to tell from their appearance or why we selected that particular species to begin with.

I grew up around the wood flooring industry. My grandfather was a wood flooring contractor; his sons were wood flooring contractors; and I’m a 3rd generation wood floor contractor, and my son who is a 4th generation floor contractor. But I aslo have two younger relatives who are 5th generation floor contractors. We’re always talking about wood flooring, I mean the species of trees that produce the real wood flooring. I say this because of the many laminates that are produced to have the appearance of real wood but is actually a plastic or some other synthethic material designed to emulate the appearance of real wood. 

I always like to speak on the beauty I see while looking at wood flooring wherever its applied, my home, your home, or in any commercial setting. I always see the same thing regardless of the species, and that’s a life sustaining natural material. About 30% of our oxygen comes from trees and plants through photosynthesis. This chemical reactions of carbon dioxide and water create the oxygen we breath. When I look at this wood floor with the various grain patterns, textures, and color, I’m reminded of the true value of what I’ve preserved as not only a beautiful floor, but a natural and forever reminder that this tree his the reason why I exist!
